Two Types of Jacks: Choose Your Mechanism

1. Mechanical Screw Jack

  • How it works: A large threaded screw is turned by a hand wheel. A ratchet gear increases the torque, allowing one person to generate high pressure easily.
  • Best for: Very small presses (320mm – 450mm).
  • Advantage: Mechanically simple, never leaks oil.

2. Manual Hydraulic Jack

  • Advantage: Easier to reach higher pressures (up to 12-16 MPa) with less physical effort than a screw jack.

A: No. Both the screw jack (with gear ratio) and the hydraulic jack are designed to multiply your force. An average person can easily reach the required sealing pressure.

A: For the Screw Jack, the mechanical thread locks the plate pack in place; it won’t loosen. For the Hydraulic Jack, a mechanical locking nut is tightened once pressure is reached to hold the pack securely.
